docXConverter 3.1.2

docXConverter Editor's Review

docXConverter is an application that converts Open XML files created with Microsoft Word 2007 into a readable format by other applications.

docXConverter has a similar functionality with Office Open XML File Format Converter which is the official tool from Microsoft. To be honest, the provided test files which you can find in the distribution package of this software weren't converted correctly by Microsoft's tool, while docXConverter did its job flawlessly.

The application is very easy to use. All you need to do is to drag the DOCX files onto its window, which starts the conversion process.

The configuration of docXConverter can be done with a few mouse clicks. You can choose the Rich Text Format, the Text, and the Unicode as output format. The file location can be the original location of the original file. You can set a specific folder, or you can pick a directory while converting.

You can also open automatically the output file after the conversion process is finished. You can use either the default application for that file type, or you can set a specific program.

docXConverter supports good integration with Mac OS X. You can register the application as the default program which handles DOCX. You can also install a contextual menu plugin which extends the integration level.

Pluses: it allows you to convert the DOCX format into a readable format by Macintosh applications, it is easy to use, in integrates well with OS X.

Drawbacks / flaws:

In conclusion: docXConverter is a pretty good product which with the provided test files did a better job that Microsoft's solution.
